Current macroeconomic pressures sculpt today’s investing landscape and shine a spotlight on alternative options for investors to safeguard against volatility, risk and inflation. As alternative investments become more readily available to retail investors, the competitive landscape is heating up. Understanding how advisors view and use these alternative investment products available to them is key for asset managers seeking to capitalize on growing demand.

This report is the third wave of our Trends in Alternative Investments report series. Building off Escalent’s Javelin Strategy & Research “Alternative Investments for the Retail Investor” report published in September 2023, which focused on digital platforms and access points, this report provides an understanding of how advisors’ and investors’ views on the alternative investment market have changed over the past couple of years. New this year, we examine how advisors assess these investments and allocate assets across the liquidity spectrum.
